Bucket Brigade

comforting otherThe Bucket Brigade was developed to help victims of house fires, in the first 24 hours of the fire. When a house fire has occurred and a family has been displaced, we are there to help the healing process start. Because we are not always actively on duty, we have an agreement with local fire departments to call us and activate the “Bucket Brigade”. Because of our agreement, either one of the firefighters or a member of the charity will speak with the family and get vital information from them including clothing sizes, address of incident or where the family is located. The Bucket Brigade volunteers are on call 24 hours a day, ready to help when the need arises. After the Bucket Brigade volunteers are contacted they gather the essential needs for each family, clothes are picked up at the “Caring Place” a local re-sale shop who donates to fire victims. The ”Brigade” then goes directly to the fire scene or where ever the family is located. After comforting the family members, we provide each person with their own “Bucket Brigade” box of essential needs to get them through the remainder of the night and into the next day.

Each box includes a blanket, pillow, stuffed animals for the kids, clothes in each persons size, personal hygiene items to include but not limited to (toothpaste, toothbrush, comb, brush, deodorant, razors, shaving cream, body lotion, shampoo, conditioner, soap, feminine products and a wash cloth)

The Family is also provided with a packet of information including a phone book, application for emergency relief (through DHS), a list of local vendors to start the clean up and rebuilding process, and a $100.00 visa card for each family member as well as a place to stay at one of the local hotels.

thCA6FQUKQWe will make arrangements for the family pets in the event they are unable to take them with along to where they are staying. Finally we make sure the families are transported to their accommodations and settled in.

 

 

Education

20140823_120907 The Fire/ EMS Members Charity is proud to help educate children in public safety. We do this in two ways first we hold a Public safety day each year. During this day we support local fire and EMS departments as well as local and state law enforcement in public safety, demonstrations and educational  opportunities. Re-enforcing to children that Law Officers, Firefighters and EMS personnel are their friends and a safe person to turn to when they need them.  We also support the local fire departments with their fire safety programs at the local schools.

Christmas Giving Program

403599_296180440424868_368352773_nEach year the Fire / EMS Members Charity assists other local charities with food or financial needs for our Christmas Giving Program. These charities help families that are in need because one of their family members is going through or has had a devastating event such as a child or parent with a serious illness, been involved in a tragic event (ie. fire) or anything which was financially devastating to the family. Each family is anonymous to protect their dignity and identity.

Tragedy

When a family has a tragic event such as serious car accident or illness that causes hardship to the a family. The charity can help them with a financial donation to help them with medical bills, gas money or hotel rooms near hospitals.
